Charles was called to go to the Northern most Arctic waters to the community of Utqiaġvik, AK to be stationed there for whaling and his trading post. His thoughts were never to come to Utqiaġvik, AK, but, he made his mind up and decided to take on the job. He married Asianataq and had children with her. He was well known to people who traveled to the Arctic waters and students from the United States and he would assist other whalers who got stranded or during any other events.
